Ebay Advice - making some pennies!

We all know how hard it is to afford things right now, I've been Ebaying for many years and I still stand by it being one of the easiest ways to clear out and make some pennies. Even if it's just a few pounds here and a few pounds there - it adds up.

I've purchased some bargains on Ebay before in bidding battles. I'm probably one of those snipers you hate, leaving it until 5 seconds remaining and slipping in a cheeky bid. I'm always careful with what I bid on and ask the seller if I have any queries at all - especially if their item is listed with no returns!

A few top tips to sell an item successfully, in this instance an item of clothing:

  • Take as many photos of the item as you can, I always try and photo from the front, the back and the label.
  • It is also important to photograph any defects or marks and include them in the listing.
  • Make the item description clear, don't talk too much - the buyer is usually just browsing so make it easy for them.
  • Start the bid on a low number, 0.99 is my advice. Unless the item is worth significant amount, start on a low number, 0.99 attracts bidders and even if you think it's too low - if it's worth it the bids will rise.
  • Be realistic, e.g if you've bought a dress for £30 and you've worn it a few times so listed it as 'used' don't list it for £20, nobody will be interested. Try something low and you might be shocked.
  • Make sure the images are good, if you have the time - style them on a model of suitable size. If not, make sure the clothing is well lit and in focus.
  • Postage - Don't try and make money through postage, buyers know what it costs to send approximately, there's nothing more off-putting than bidding and winning a £3.00 top and discovering that the seller has asked for a further £7.00 postage.
