Downton Abbey clothing collection in the near future?

I'm sure you're all aware of Downton Abbey, the hit TV show on ITV. It enticed the UK and then sucked in the US aswell, it seems to be everyone's guilty pleasure. I'm not normally a fan of period dramas but after a couple of episodes, I just couldn't stop. In anticipation of season 4, I visited the Downton Abbey set at Highclere castle with my boyfriend. It was exactly how you see it in the show, rooms such as the library and dining room were identical and a variety of different scenes came flooding back to us.

It has came to light that producers of the show NBC Universal and Carnival Films have announced that there is going to be a Downton Abbey style collection released very soon. This collection is said to include clothing, beauty products and decorative furniture. Gareth Nearne stated "Some of these things have been available since 2012 - we publish books and have made a music album, but the more complex products take time".

I have shown a tiny selection of what Downton Abbey has to offer in terms of fashion. The costumes were covered in embroidery and embellishment. Lots of layering was used with expensive materials such as lace and silk. The family tended to wear rich colours, deep blues and reds mixed with pale shades. The colours highly dictated the mood, for instance after a death dark outfits would be seen for a while, whereas after a happy occasion as seen below - pale powder blues, lilacs and magnolia were seen. They wore a mixture of trends over the years, before and after the war. Long gowns were replaced by above ankle dresses and women were more free in what they wore. Towards the end of season 3, corsets were fading out too. I'm sure we will see the further developments over season 4, maybe the dresses will even get shorter? Who knows.

I'm really excited to see what they come up with. Although the trends are a little different in 2013, we can take inspiration from such grand outfits and hopefully they have developed a modern twist for the modern day woman.
