Met Ball 2013: Fashion success or Fashion failure?

The Met Ball or Met Gala as some people know it, is a red carpet event celebrating the yearly grand opening of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit. It is attended by names from the fashion, design, modelling, film and music industries. It is named the 'night of nights' in the fashion industry so celebrities and designers travel from all over the world to New York, to take part in the event.

Due to the importance of this event, it is evident that there is much talk over fashion choices and designer decisions. I'm making comparisons in this blog post between 2012 and 2013, which was the better choice?

Anna Wintour - 2012 - 2013

First we begin with Anna Wintour, incredibly powerful business woman, Editor in Chief at American Vogue. In 2012 we saw Wintour in her trademark long straight cut style dress - custom made by Prada with lobster motif.

Although we should respect the Queen of fashion publishing's decision; I'm so happy that she made an improvement when attending this year. A little less glam gran, a little more seasonal chic. The summery colours of this sleek Chanel number created a graceful look, softening her intimidating presence.

Beyonce - 2012 - 2013

Beyonce is well known for her curvy figure, and usually this creates a lot of positive reactions. All of us girls seem to team together when we see a little 'meat' on the catwalk. In 2012 Queen B looked beautiful in a Givenchy Haute Couture piece by Riccardo Tisci. It was one of her first red carpet appearances since childbirth.

The embellishments gave her curves some sparkle and the feather train was a perfect touch to the hour glass figure. I wish I could say the same about 2013. She was seen again in a Givenchy Couture piece and although I don't dislike the pattern and style, it's just not right for Beyonce is it? It's not flattering in the slightest and I'd be suprised if she hasn't punctured a lung squeezing in that tight. It's a shame but there's always next year?

Cara Delevigne - 2012 - 2013

Cara Cara Cara, although successfully modelling in 2012, it was only towards the end when her name became pebble dashed over every magazine, every website and every advertisement. I think her 2013 look is much more superior in comparison to 2012.

Although a very dynamic model, she is better suited to the more rough cut looks, cute princess just doesn't do her any justice. She's fierce and I think this years beautiful Burberry studded number did the job perfectly. The plunge still added the sexiness but the combination of dark makeup and studs complimented each-other, making 2012's Burberry look - so last year.

Kristen Stewart - 2012 - 2013
Kristen Stewart, who styles her? Am i right in thinking she's been on the worst dressed lists of every event? I don't know if it's the garments themselves or her 'I don't want to be here' stance. Anyhow - 2012 saw Stewart wear a block colour piece by Balenciaga.

I just don't think the straight look is good for somebody who doesn't show much femininity as it is? Possibly a slight improvement when looking at 2013; Stewart wore a wine coloured Stella McCartney jumpsuit. The lace embellishments show a hint of skin and a hint of 'sexy' whilst the colour oozes seduction and lust. I'm just not entirely sure she has pulled it off as well as she could.

Michelle Dockery - 2012 - 2013

Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey sweetheart. It's still quite suprising not to see her in period costume isn't it? 2012 saw Dockery in a Ralph Lauren collection dress with gold bodice, a nice look; sexy, chic and glam. Maybe not as interesting as some, the competition in 2012 was HOT.

2013 saw her in a Burberry python print leather dress; success. It supplied the right amount of sophistication, dominatrix meet Queen mother, Kill Bill meet Downton Abbey?

Sarah Jessica Parker - 2012 - 2013

I think Sarah Jessica Parker keeps forgetting that Carrie Bradshaw is a fictional character, it's not always appropriate to wear such extravagant outfits; door ways don't even cater you. 2013 saw her wear a Giles Deacon ball gown and Philip Treacy Mohican headpiece. The fabric is of a complex pattern and the piece is very pretty, I'm just not too sure whether Parker should move on from the extravagant styles and simmer down - kind of like 2012?

2012 saw Parker in a floral Valentino number, she looked graceful and lady like. I look forward to see this look on her again soon. Please Parker.
